SOME OF THE THINGS WE DO

1. Hold fun gatherings and meetings

Every season we hold a get together at a different place along the corridor.  In the past few years we been in Waltham, West Boylston, Hudson, Sterling and Palmer. For 2007, we will be holding gatherings in Rutland, Northampton and someplace TBD in eastern Mass.

In October of 2006, we held a gathering in Somerville. Hosted by the City of Somerville, its official Bicycle Committee and Friends of Community Path, over 100 people turned out for the 14th annual Tour de Somerville. We met at Davis Sq. and headed out enmasse - along with escorts from the Somerville PD's Bike Police - and toured the existing trail network, and the future connections. Our guides were Greg Palmer and Ron Neumann - members of the Friends of the Community Path, Steve Winslow - Bike-Ped Coordinator for the city, and Alan Moore - Somerville Bike Committee.

After the several hour tour, we convened at a local restaurant - Burren's - in Davis Square for a bite to eat and to get an update from the different communities along the corridor. [see pix below]

Letter about the extension of the Green Line Rapid Transit line in Somerville

Building a coalition of communities and projects under one letterhead for the most signficant rail trail project in the state brings a unique opportunity.  We have developed letterhead and a protocol to weigh-in on local development projects that have a direct and signficant effect on the corridor of the MassCentral Rail Trail.

Here's our most recent letters. [click on them to get a printable PDF version of each]  The letter regarding the proposed extension of the GreenLine in Somerville has generated a letter in return from Ken Miller, Deputy Secretary for Planning at EOT. Click here for that.
