About MCRT Belmont

Belmont, once known as a sleepy little town of flower farms and large houses, has invested in building multi-modal infrastructure recently.  These welcome additions to the streets of Belmont improve the multi-modal friendliness of the town and complement Belmont’s commitment to the future rail trail construction.

The MCRT in Belmont
Whether heading East or West, you will find yourself predominantly on roads between Fitchburg Cut Off Path to the East and Waltham Wayside (Waverley Oaks) to the west for approximately 3.3 miles. From West to East

  • 1.25 Miles:  Star Market Parking Lot - Waverley Square

  • 1.94 Miles:  Clark St. Pedestrian Bridge

  • 2.19 Miles:  Train Station Pedestrian Tunnel

  • 2.26 Miles:  Belmont Center

Clark Street Pedestrian Bridge - A wooden decked pedestrian bridge where you can imagine the proposed route of the MCRT along the rail line below.  This bridge connects Pleasant St (Rt. 60) with Royal Rd.

Belmont Center Train Station Pedestrian Tunnel - Entrance viewed from Royal Rd. in December when the Belmont Lions Club sells trees.

This tunnel goes under the tracks allowing you to avoid the hustle and bustle of the Belmont Center Underpass.

Don’t let these on-street workarounds deter you from exploring and enjoying everything that Belmont has to offer.  Belmont Center (Leonard St.) offers restaurants and shops. 

Waverley Square
Set above the MBTA Waverley commuter rail stop, Waverley Square has coffee shops (Tatte and Dunkin), a new food hall opening in early 2026 (Wonder), a grocery store (Star Market) and the Wheelworks bike shop that has been in this location since the early 1980s.
